Botanični vrt Univerze v Ljubljani / University of Ljubljana Botanical Garden

Botanični vrt Univerze v Ljubljani, ustanovljen leta 1810 pod Ilirskimi provincijami, je najstarejša neprekinjeno delujoča kulturna, znanstvena in izobraževalna ustanova v Sloveniji. V njem raste več kot 4500 rastlinskih vrst in podvrst, od tega več kot tretjina domačih kranjskih. Vrt je pomemben center za ohranjanje ogroženih in endemičnih vrst, v sklopu kompleksa pa izstopa velik tropski rastlinjak z bujnim tropskim rastlinstvom. Z nastankom in obstojem vrta je povezana tudi zanimiva zgodba. Ustanovil ga je Franc Hladnik, ki je dobil podporo francoskega maršala Augusta Marmonta. Ko so se Francozi umaknili, so avstrijske oblasti nameravale vrt zapreti, a ga je Hladnik z neumornim delom in visoko strokovnostjo uspel rešiti. Vrtu je Hladnik posvetil celotno življenje, ob odhodu v pokoj pa je mestu zapustil neprocenjivo zbirko rastlin, ki je temelj današnjega botanicalnega bogastva. /// University of Ljubljana Botanical Garden, established in 1810 during the Illyrian Provinces, is Slovenia's oldest continuously operating cultural, scientific, and educational institution. However, Hladnik saved it through his relentless dedication and botanical expertise. He devoted his entire life to the site, ultimately leaving behind an invaluable plant collection that remains the foundation of the garden today.
